Will it fit? 2007 header on a 1999
Here's the skinny:
I have a 1999 Road King with the twin-cam motor. I was investigating an exhaust leak and discovered the header pipe coming out of the rear cylinder is cracked.
Rather than having it welded, I can pick-up a 'take off' set of headers/heat shields (very reasonably) locally...but they are from a 2007 touring model.
I know I will need to get a plug for the o2 sensor port...but, aside from that, will it all fit? I would prefer to just replace the one cracked pipe...but will do a complete swap if necessary.
Any help?
Off the top of my head I assume it will fit, as there really wasn't much of a change in configuration until the frame re-design in '09, but wanted to get other input before I go grab the pipes.
Thanks in advance.
welding the cracked Y pipe is very common but if welding REMOVE the part from the bike ( any part) an arc welder can blow out the ignition module
I welded the Y pipe on my 1995 and it's still holding, over 40,000 miles on the repair- truth is I may have over stressed it while swapping mufflers, leading to a crack which showed up a a few months later

I figured it would work. Just wanted a second opinion to make me feel better. I forgot to bring the pipe with me to 'match it up'...so I would be going just from memory.
I think mine may have been over-stressed also after the install of my belt drive.
I'm not going to mess with welding it, as the pipe is completely broken...and the 'take off' exhaust is crazy cheap. Also, I will be getting an entire set of hear shields that I can mess with - which I may have ceramic or powder coated in a different color.
