I have the good 'ol HD covers and I love them. They keep the bags looking good when the wife puts her hands on the lid to open or close them. I know, **** as hell, but I hated having fingerprints and goop on the lids all the time!
I don't think the Hog Covers would help me the lid is already scratched I think you'd be able to see the scratches right through them. If the came in black that would be usefull.
There you go, paint them black, I used Fusion paint and they held up great, Another idea is Go to a sign shop and have them cut some black vinyl to fit or even do a design. Peel and stick.
I took my bag off to clean behind it and when I set it down, forgetting to latch the lid, the lid flopped open on the concrete and pitted it in a few places, just like yours. So, it was either A. try to find a new lid (which as you are doing I could FIND them but the cost was a little overwhelming) 2. get the damaged lid repaired and painted (ever price a can of Harley Davidson paint?) or 3. put a bra on them puppies (I find it really hard to even have those words come out of my mouth!) which is what I ended up doing.
Granted, still not in any way "cheap" but they do look good. Especially when wiped down with some ArmorAll or something similar. One word of advice if you do get them, follow the directions as to using the alcohol wipes to thoroughly clean where the velcro strips mount to the inside of the lids and let the velcro strips set for the full recommended time for the adhesive to adhere to the lids before installing the covers. Otherwise, they WILL pull off.
Get in the habit of securing the lid before you lift them off the bike. I'm betting that now you'll never do it again! Personally I don't like any of the lid covers on the market.
I thought they would dull the paint from rubbing so I was staying away from them. They would come in handy when the grand demons were around crawling all oer the bike
I put a set of the HD covers on my wife's ultra. They look fine but are a pain in the *** to stretch on. I put a set of Mustang covers on my ultra. They stretch on easily and look great. I would recommend the Mustang covers to anyone.
