I just bought a set of used 3.5 rinehart slip ons for my still stock 13 flhx. My guestion is what's the leat expensive way to get these on & running? I'm not a go fast and the 103's powers plenty fast enough to me. Just wana be heard but not to loud at hwy speeds so I can hear my tunes.
I had my dealer install my 4" Rinehart slip ons while the bike was in for the 1,000 mile service. They charged $35.00. Ask your dealer what they would charge. The sound is deep and nice, you will be heard, but not obnoxious. No problem hearing the stereo. I'm not sure how different the 3 1/2" would be.
There isn't much to it, the last set I did myself took just over half an hour.
1. Re-use muffler clamp (if good), or buy new (2ea).
2. Slip clamp onto muffler.
3. Line "inner" opening of muffler/pipe with HT silicone (liquid copper).
4. Slide pipe onto header - ensure it's on "beyond" crimp groove.
5. Secure muffler to bracket with bolts & lock washers & tighten to 96 - 144 in/lb.
6. Position & tighten clamp to 38 - 43 ft/lbs.
7. Install saddlebags.
Ride for ~50-miles & check/re-torque to spec (listed above).
Yeah, its pretty much "fool proof" no tuning necessary for slip-ons. Hardest part might be getting of the OEM exhaust, but your bike isn't that old so they should come off fairly easy.
