I've been noticing that after my bike sits for a few days, on the first fire, its been turning over slower and slower over the last few weeks. The rest of the day it will be fine. Well today, the first turn over was really slow before it fired AND both my trip counters reset to zeros. I think the writing is on the wall......I'm gonna need a new battery. I'd rather do it now instead of ending up stranded somewhere.
I'm not much of a fan of paying dealer prices when I can more than likely get a superior product for the same amount or cheaper. I just checked and Optima doesn't make motorcycle batteries. What is a good brand that will last yet won't totally tap me out? I'm not running a stereo or higher compression or anything that will require more power, just a stage 1 TC with stock cams.
I just bought a Lithium Iron battery. 3 time the cca @ 540, the harley battery is 170. the harley battery weighs 16lbs, the lithium weighs 4lbs. It holds the charge for months without a top off. Cost was $260. Check batterymart.com for Shorai batteries. Then google for the best price. (I got mine thru Amazon)
Just came from Batteries Plus today at the recommendation of my indie. He also said its the same battery as the Moco, but for $40 cheaper. They sell two batteries for HD touring bikes, one for $99 and one for $144ish. $99 battery comes with 1 year warranty. $144 battery comes with 2 years. The tech at the counter also said its the same battery as HD stock, but thats the $144 battery, not the $99 battery.
I don't know what battery an 05 uses. Batterymart.com sells my battery (ETX30 AGM made by Deka) for $99 delivered to my door. Several have said the dealer sells the battery with the Harley logo for about $180. Whatever battery your bike uses should get about the same sort of price break if you buy from them. Batteries Plus seems to about split the difference between batterymart and the Harley dealer price. How old is your present battery and do you really want to spend 50% more for that second year of warranty?
My buddy just got a LI battery and he bought the charger too. Expensive but we couldn't run the battery down playin his stock stereo ALL day at work. The bike wasn't running. He's happy but so am I with my drag specialties replacement lol
