Default Anyone with instructions replacing shifting spline?

My toe shifter completely failed and is now still attached to the spline but resting on floorboard bracket. I can't find anything in the manual that tells how to replace the spline. Luckily I had the heel shifter to shift with.

Can anyone relay the instructions? Thanks.

probably the teeth are munched and you may be looking at replacing all 3 pieces.

an animal like me ( who would use a $69 lift instead of a $400 lift on my $25000 "investment").

would look at the worn parts and attempt to

1.) swap the toe and heel shifters

2.) mark the correct/ desired position on the shaft

3.) drill through both shifter and shaft, so that I can use a bolt or roll pin, to secure in place

and

4.) be prepared to buy new stuff if this doesn;t work.

Its probably the shifter thats stripped, that metal is softer than the splined shaft. Its easy to take apart, remove the rod, than each socket head screw in the levers and the one on the inside of the primary where the rod attaches. Of course if it was loose for a while it very well may have worn the splines out

If the shaft is truly stripped, then my vote is what mkguitar would do. Simple, and effective.

Or, you could...

Remove the shift lever on the other end of the shaft, and pull the shaft out. Then, you could get the damaged lever/shaft up onto a work bench where you can actually do something like remove the damaged shifter, and replace what needs to be replaced...

The bolt going through the shift lever(s) coincides with a concave indicator on the shaft. Kind of like a key way, to keep the shifter from sliding on/off the shaft if the bolt were to become loosened. The bolt has to be removed before pulling the shifter off of the shaft. If the bolt is stripped, you may have to drill it out.

Instructions:

1.) Remove shift lever bolt.

2.) Pull lever off of shaft. (You may need to spread the shift arm apart to get clearance for pulling the lever off of the shaft. A large screw driver may work.)

3.) Inspect the splines on both the shaft, and the shift arm.

4.) Replace excessively worn parts, as necessary.

5.) Reverse these instructions for re-installation.

Or mark the levers then pull the shaft out & weld the levers to the shaft

is your front shifter linkage splines damaged or the rear shifter linkage splines? If the rear, it ain't so easy. The front is simple.

It's a piece of cake ... The spline will slide right out of the bushing that is pressed into the inner primary once you loosen the shift linkage piece that is located on the backside ( engine side ) of the primary ... No special tools needed ... Some years ago the Toe shifter was updated wit a thicker boss and a larger diameter bolt to allow a higher torque in the hopes of alleviating this problem ... I've replaced the one on my 1992 FLHTCU twice ... The first time was a direct replacement of the original ( smaller ) toe shifter .... The second time the "new and improved" design was installed and it's still on there!
