Default Engine Operating Temp - Should I be concerned?

Bike is a 13' RGC with FullSac Sportpipe, recored mufflers, SE Intake and a PV with 3 or 4 auto tune runs and I run Redline in all 3 holes. I know the newer bikes run hot but I expected the PV tuner to bring the temps down some. Went for a very short ride yesterday with the following numbers: Outside temps were around 95* give or take a couple degrees. Ride was about 10 miles long on surface streets with 4 or 5 red lights along the way and speeds around 45mph. Power Vision was reading engine temp as high as 305* at about 7 or 8 miles into the trip. Bike runs good but these temps continue to concern me. I guess I expected after tuning the bike with the PV, the bike would run cooler than it does. More in the 275* range. Any cause for concern here or is this the norm?

Contrary to popular belief adding fuel doesnt cool the engine as much as people claim on this forum. 305 degree oil temp @ 95 degrees ambient temp sounds about right.

I have no tuner and in this area this time of year temps are 95 - 102 at least. I ride on streets and freeways with no problems. My 'parade mode' kicks on at red lights but bike performs great.

You are looking at cylinder head temp, not oil temp. That sounds about right.

The Power Vision tuner can display the engine temp reading at the cylinder head. Note that the temps I indicated are the engine operating temps and NOT the oil temps. I would assume the oil temps are lower but I don't have a reading on the oil..

My PV reads about 235-250 average on the highway. I compared the readings my PV gives with the Digital Tech II, and they are within 2 degrees of each other.

In town at the speeds you were running, and with stops at lights in the mix, you are getting very little air over the fins, so 280-300ish is not unreasonable.

Get her out on the open road with no stops and your temps should run under the 250 range.

10 miles with 4-5 red lights will get your engine temp hot in a hurry. the short bursts of speed up to 45 mph is not fast enough or sustained long enough to really lower your temps at all from my experience. I monitor my engine temp with a Power Vision as well and those are about the same temps I see. If I'm doing 65-70 on the highway I'll be sitting right around 265-275, as soon as I hit town and catch a few red lights I'll be up to a little over 300. Ambient temps where I'm at are around 105-110 in the afteroon.

I was going to say that your highway temps look a little high.... until I read the ambient temps. Sucks to be you in the afternoon
