Let it burn or Be afraid. Ign. smoked and inst lights stay on
Yups, still a hundred miles from home but it does start and run.
I had my ingnition switch smoke for a second and now the only way to get my instruments to die is disconnect the battery. Scary thought. I have had to wiggle the main switch on occasion lately to get these lights to come on. Now they won't go off. I've ridden it 50+ miles after this anomoly and just want/need a bit of positive reinforecment before this last leg of my trip. Staying on the two lanes for this as well. Wish me luck, as I'm not likely to see this before i get home. Mignt if I'm dead on the road and have time and battery to kill.
Signed......Bob
Well, I made it home some Ninety miles later and no fire and still have instrument and running/turn lights illuminated when the switch is in the off and locked positions.
My guess, is start with a new switch and work from there.

Have you recently had the switch out of the bike or have you messed with anything in the switch area? Just asking to try to help. If not, then you may have a bad switch.
might want to drop it off at that harley dealer in gillette, wyoming...they can fix that in no time and install a couple of new tires while they are at it!!
Update on smoking ignition:
I Just got off the phone with the dealer. They said they all do that......! Lol
Not really, but it was the switch and $65.w tax, and an hour later, it was all good in the hood. Four years of my ownership and 50+K by my hands, 65K on the clock and this is my first parts legitimate failure. I knew it was going to be soon, but while I was riding alone in the Ozarks...kinda uneasy feeling and wasn't packing heat. No banjo music in the background, so it was all good. There was a snake handling lot of churchies just up the road, but I ain't skert! Lol
Another thing I just thought of. Besides having to order all three manuals for my scoot, every other part I have purchased to date has been on the shelf at the dealer. Hows that for luck! ROFL (ie clutch lever and bracket, windshield/fairing nut-certs, one pair of saddle bag retaining hardware, (unused to date), several kickstand springs, a host of side cover gaskets, drain plug O rings and filters). I have been more than impressed with my Standard Glide.
