Right now on my FLSTC i keep it covered in the driveway but often the rim is exposed, and the chrome has seen some rusting. No biggie, lesson learned to not have chrome wheels on next bike.
Im asking this question because i saw an old RK sit in a lot for years and years, through tons of rain and tons of snow. Didnt look like it was in bad shape, but i never got close enough to look in detail.
So just wondering if there are known things i can change out that have proven to rust over time when exposed? I dont anticipate having a garage this winter and wont have the funds to pay for storage.
There are various products you can apply to exposed parts like your rims to protect them. Same comment would apply to alloy wheels, as they suffer in similar conditions, or if ridden through winter and road salt.
There are a ton of products out there to help. I've had very good results with Flitz metal polish. It removes the rust and provides a film to help protect agaist rust and corrosion. Works very well on chrome and aluminum.
Both front and rear and where the wiring comes through the fenders as well. Lot's of corrosion where chrome meets painted surfaces and where rubber grommets protect wiring.
