I ride my Limited back and forth to work , 45 miles each way pretty much every day.
I have not ever took it for a long trip.
My company pays for the plane tickets so it is hard not to just fly.
That said, I have a meeting in Craig CO next wedensday.
It is about 1200 miles from here.
I'm thinking that even with the heat it would be a good first long road trip.
If I leave out around 5:00 am every morning I can put in 8 hours before it gets too hot then lay up in a hotel till the next morning.
3 days up , 3 days back.
Any tips for a first time distance trip?
I do very few long trips, only 3 in the last 8 years. If you've got a comfortable bike (you do, especially that Ultimate Seat!) where the wind doesn't beat you up (it won't), just make sure you get enough sleep and stay well hydrated during the ride. One or two extra bathroom breaks in a day are worth it. And combine stops. If you have to stop to go to the bathroom, fill up the gas tank no matter what. And enjoy eating up those miles! Ride safe.
Stay hydrated and try to eat healthy snacks.
Make sure you have sunscreen on exposed skin.
Pull over at scenic overlooks and other interesting sites, otherwise you may as well fly.

I took my first long trip just a few weeks ago. Posted a thread about it. Went around Vermont and such. Was excellent.
Sounds like a great idea - hell, I'd JUMP at the opportunity! Redbeard pretty much covered the essentials, I just wanted to wish you luck and enjoy the trip.
Only suggestion I would have is to watch the weather. I don't know how far east the monsoons come, but they really pound southern and central Utah this time of year.
I do 500-600 mile trips a few times a year. My longest was from Fayetteville NC to Austin Tx, the biggest thing is to stay hydrated. A bottle of water/gatorade, redbull, 2 cigarettes was my typical fuel stop routine. Other than than, sit back and enjoy the trip.
Get a CamelBak. Fill it full of ice and top off with water. It will help keep you cool too. I try to drain mine 70oz between full ups.
bicycling shorts are great too keeps the chafing to minimum.
Use the time at your destination to re-charge for the return trip.
