Are there generic fuel injectors?
I have new plugs, new wires, new air cleaner and have cleaned the MAP. Usually on the second try, it starts. It runs well and gets good gas mileage. My theory at this point is that one or both injectors seep slightly when the engine is not running and that creates a very rich condition in the manifold preventing first try firing. I have been in areas where E10 is the only fuel available and I am suspicious that the injectors have suffered some damage form that. I recently removed the air filter immediately after shut down and saw some fuel vapor in the manifold. That seems to support my diagnostic conclusion.
The Harley injectors are part # 27609-01B and are priced at $76.99 each. I tried to cross reference these in Google, Ebay Motors and Amazon and was amazed that some of the replacements are twice as expensive as the Harley branded ones. Even for the Harley units, $165+ (including tax) seems a little rich for another experiment. Is there a generic automotive cross reference piece that might sell in the $40 to $50 range. I searched all around in here and could find nothing addressing this specific question.
