tbone.
My 2002 EG had that problem...added a tru-trac and some good Dulop E3 tires and a lot better. I like the other tires Avon & Metzler but there's just some thin funny about those euro-type tires gotta watch PSI all the time or they feel soft to me when cornering...maybe just me?

AND unless you have a recently CALIBRATED air gauge add a couple psi to be on the safe side in case it might read a little higher than actual pressure. A little extra pressure is far safer than a little too low.

thinking with those tires, this may be the correct frame brace for that model, about $150:

No it's not just you! I have lost count of how many times I post on HDF that when using non-stock tyres we should always check the manufacturer's website. Avon routinely recommend higher pressures than the stock factory tyres. Cobras (Avon's latest Harley friendly tyre) for your bike should be 38F/44R, solo.

Avon are indeed European, in fact British old chap, owned by Cooper Tires. So you can buy the best AND buy American!

Guys, I ordered a Avon Cobra for the front about noon today. Supposed to be here by Tuesday, we will see. My rear Cobra is a year old with 6,000 miles; it should be ok for a while. I'll have the trueness checked by my local Indy when he mounts the front for me.

Graham, I didn't notice in post 7 you were listing pressures for a Venom. My rear is actually a Cobra and sidewall says 40 psi max. I looked here http://http://avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/cobra and cannot find a max pressure, so...

Goofy,

PS, when E3's come out in wide whitewall, I'd love to try a set. Until then, choices in WW are slim.

Are you saying I should exceed the sidewall maximum air pressures?

I'm saying check Avon's website! For your bike they recommend:

FLHR / I / CI Road King / Classic (1994 - 2003)

Front Tyre Cobra
Pressure front:
2.6 bar (38psi)
Front size: MT90B16 74H (also WW)

Rear Tyre Cobra
Pressure rear:
3.0 bar (44psi)
Rear size: MT90B16 74H or 140/90B16 77H (also WW)

Ignore what it says on the sidewall, go by the manufacturer's stated recommendation, above. The figures on the sidewall are a guide only. Avon give general guidelines here, from which you will see that you can use pressures from 38-43 front, 44-50 rear.

You can also find useful info from their UK website, which is where I got the data above.

Invest a few extra $$bucks$$ for a quality air gage ,check your air pressure frequently .

You will find that not only will your bike perform and handle better / safer with properly inflated tires they will last much longer ,many more miles .

I have e3s I run 38lb front 42lb rear .

Works for me .

I ran 40 and 44 with the metzlers on my shovel
