I'm good at following directions and know that it needs to plug into the rear brake wiring harness and I know it should be somewhere under the seat or the left side cover -- but I simply cannot find it. It doesn't help that I don't know exactly what it looks like.

I just installed one of those on my 13 SG. You will need to take of the seat and the left plastic painted cover. There you will find lots of cables zip tied and the six pin harness is in that area, closer to the back of the bike.
