I think this is typical of HD, lack of R&D in house and they throw their crap out there for the customer to test. Unfortunately this is what happens on first year model issues. Note to self.
Ya know, I hear you but... And I'm not one to cut anyone slack but... NOTHING shakes bugs out like users. I'm in software. Same crap here. We test the living sh%t out of new code and still the users find the bugs. I agree it seems to be more prevalent these days to release products too soon but even if the test cycle was doubled you would see this. Users/riders do things that testers can't/don't anticipate. First rule in buying software is never never take a .0 release of a product. The new twin cooled engines are just that... a .0 release of a product. If you want fewer issues wait until a .1 or a .2. JMO.
Since this new cooling design was posted here in like 2009 I'm doubting the customer was the Beta tester. Irresponsible to even suggest such a a thing.
Yep, obvious by the eventual problem being a compression release, it could just as easily have happened on a 2011. I never had a problem with my first year release 2009 frame.
now that harley has this water-cooling all figured out...maybe they can figure out to put water-cooling on those XR750's. was at the springfield mile over the weekend-clean sweep for kawasaki. first time since 1987 at san jose that a harley was not in the top 3 and on the podium. those water-cooled kawasakis are very fast. course you can rest assured that the moco will be crying to the AMA to change the rules.
I think if I was trying to win that argument I would have just lied and said I was a water cooling engineer or something. You know, put that baby to bed.
Just me. I'm smart... I really am a mechanical and electrical engineer and computer science engineer so I know all kinds of stuff to argue about.
with each post from a rider with a water cooled gps bike, i become more and more thankful and appreciative of by 13 UC. I kinda feel bad for the guys who bought them. Nobody deserves these headaches when dropping serious coin on a bike. shameful
I learned my lesson on a new Ford pickup back in 03. It was the redesign of Fords new trucks in 04 and I had to have one. Bad mistake, in the shop after the first 3 weeks and several times after that. Got rid of it with 8,000 miles on the clock. Never again with the first ones until about a yr or so. The bugs should be gone by then and I'll trade. I hope though most of the problems are a simple fix and wish the best for all who buy the 2014. I love the bikes and think it's a move in the right direction for HD.

I think they are a long ways from figuring it out. Just to put liquid cooled heads on a bike isn't a liquid cooled motor, far from it. Maybe the designers and engineers that made the VROD motor could help these idiots out.

No need to feel bad for me. I'm happy with my 2014. I traded my best bike ever (2010 Limited) for a better bike.
