I have 3 personal bikes (no cage, bike poor)

All 3 have Outlaw Hi-Flow Air cleaners

One had Cycle Shack slip-ons

One has Samson True-Dual Fishtails

One has Rush slip-ons

No Cats in any of them

Power Vision on two of them

XiED's on one of them

Addressing why have XiED's instead of a full tuner-

Lots of guys get the XiED product because of budget concerns and/or they do not need every last pony on the table. While not as good as a full tune, it is certainly better than the stock tune or a download. For some it is enough to get the surging/stumble out and run a little cooler.

For those that want to get everything as good as it can be, a full tuner is the way to go.

On the one with XiED's, I have been completely happy with it running at about 90% of it's "best". That extra 5-10% was not worth the extra $$$ to me. This is not an unreasonable trade-off for many.

I run the stock CVO ventalator air cleaner with K&N filter, V&H Power DUals with Klockwerks mufflers. Tuned with Dynojet Power Vision. Even a completely stock bike could benefit from a tuner but a better Air cleaner and exhausts plus a tuner works wonders.

#2 XIED's

2009 FLHTC, Ness BS, stock no cat headers, supertrapps

The xieds solved any pinging problems under load- in completely stock trim.
and function well with the air cleaner and pipes.

I am ok with retaining the stock rev limit
I was good with having a reversible mod when going in for warranty service.

I have seen a butt-load of bikes with 'tuners" which clearly were not running well, stumbling surging, stalling, black smoke...32 MPG etc.

each buck I save on this bike is a buck closer to the next.
and i'd rather have 5 bikes than 1 with "live to ride" geegaws all over it

Then those people wasted their money on their tuners by either not using them properly, or not having someone else tune them. I can guaranty you that if you're using XIEDs, your bike runs like crap, as the VE tables, throttle blade control, timing tables, and AFR/Lambda tables, as well as all the other tables that need to be adjusted from stock are untouched.

Companies like Nightrider prey on people who simply don't know any better.

02 Ultra here. 16K on the clock and just bought it. Has slip-ons (don't know mfgr), and full flow air cleaner (Not sure if it's a SE or not. Breather vent hoses attached to outside of filter). Assuming it has a dealer "flash" but not sure. PO knows nothing. Just changed the plugs and they were white. Without knowing the specifics of what I have; would it be best to contact Fuel Moto and go with their private labeled tuner? My observations coming off an Evo are this TC88 doesn't have any more power than my Evo. It runs hotter and shakes like a crack ***** in withdraw.

Default Ok ok ok

Poll shows 80% people go with tuner when making Stage one mods...A bit higher than I expected. So If you go with tuner what are the easiest steps to do that?
Does it have to go to dyno?
is there a plug and play type tuner that will do the job?
I'm a bit confused how to proceed when I'm only going with slip ons and a more air cleaner of some type.

I went with the Fuelpak from Vance and Hines. Not the best but after a couple of custom codes from V&H, checked plugs, they seem OK, bike runs much better. Decell pop is gone and throttle response is much much better. Sound is great and engine heat seems down.

You don't have to have a dyno tune. If you buy a tuner from a dealer who has a library of tunes developed on the dyno (like, for example, the sponsor of this forum), you can get pretty close to perfect right off the bat.

I'm a big fan of the PowerVision. I think it's the best tuner out there at the moment. It's something you'll never outgrow, and it gives you a fantastic window into how the bike's running.
