I'm heading back from three years in Iraq/Afghanistan at the end of this week so looking to do some longer rides with the wife. I have a 09 FLHT that I would like to increase the storage space and give the wife some more back support. Has anyone purchased any of the ABS tour packs from ebay? I don't need it except for 2 and 3 day trips or longer so don't want to invest a fortune but want something that's going to hold up. I have the four point hardware installed and am bidding on the docking hardware. I've watched, read, learned and purchased from this forum with success and enjoyment the whole time I've been away and would appreciate any help anyone has.
I myself purchased a fairing for my fatboy and sent it back because the quality of workmanship was horrible. However, that dosent mean every company is going to be bad. Do a search on youtube, therrs a company that has videos on ones they make. I believe they only make the chopped one though. Might be better off brousing ebay for a used still in good condition one. Ive also heard people say check with your local stealership and see if they have any tourpacks they took off bikes they traded.
If you were single + using it strictly as a storage device, I'd say go for it. BUT, if yer using it to hold yer honey on the bike, I'd go HD. Those aftermarket ABS trunks will tear apart if you hit a bump with any weight against it.

BTW, thanx MUCH for your service!!!
I put one on my Dyna. Was perfect for storage. Not sure about it as back support for passenger. I was pleased with it though.
I bought this for the same reason you want one, me and the wife took 2 trips this summer and this trunk worked great, it by no means is the quality of the HD tour pack but for the price it is a steal. I took my back rest off and mounted it to my luggage rack, wife loved the wrap around back rest. I am not sure how it will last in the long run but I just use it when traveling, it also comes with a lock and key. The only thing I can say is to not put to much weight on the top luggage rack, I over loaded it and it messed up the rubber seal, other then that it has worked great on both of our trips.
Thanks for everyone's responses, I guess it's what I needed to hear, just pony up the bucks and find a real one. With that anyone have a used tourpack for sale?
