Not sure, but I know there's a setting on the unit somewhere to tell it to enable SMS.. dig around in the comm menu and you should find it.
Go into set up menu on the bike and enable SMS. The rest is done by changing a couple things on the Iphone 4. Go to settings then messages . Turn OFF the iMessage. MMS setting ON, group messaging ON, show subject field OFF, Character count OFF. Now turn bike back on so the Iphone is paired to the bike. Once paired, again go back to phone and touch the Bluetooth arrow. then arrow just to right of HD Radio on your phone. Turn show notifications to ON and sync contacts to ON.
I do not use the head set to answer anything but its nice to know someone can reach me in an emergency. Then I will pull over and return the call.

That's the EXACT same reason I love this. Emergency purposes!
It does come with one hard wired headset. You'll need to buy a second one for a passenger.
Are the headsets the same as the ones that came with previous year Ultras, or did they change them somehow for the 14 models? I ordered one also and am interested in the developments in BT headsets hopefully soon, thanks.

I followed your direction and still no luck, any other suggestions?
Just so all of you know......Unless you are with Sprint, the iPhone 5 will not sync all of the contacts.....It gets most but no all of them. I am with AT&T and Harley expects a firmware update in the near future.....the IPhone 4 and 4S will apparently sync all of the contacts if you are with AT&T....only the iPhone 5, with AT&T has the issue....FYI
