Here are a couple of links that may help explain what, where and when to allpy loctite products if no other direction is given in another document.

Harley-Davidson sees fit to use locktite on the opposing-corner studs that secure the ECM to the electrical panel on the right side of the battery box. This causes the brass insert that is molded into the plastic electrical panel to spin in the plastic when you try to remove either of these mounting studs. Ask me how I know as well. I bought all new parts to replace and sure enough the brand new studs had thread sealer already on them. You may encounter this problem, as I did, if you are following the mounting instructions for a PCIII USB unit involving "cable tie" fixation. It's fine if you never need back in this location.

Just installed a PCIII and I know this problem. My left side ECMbolt & insert just spins when trying to remove it. What is the best way to get it loose so I can repair/replace it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Ride Safe,

Mike

Is there a generalrule of thumb as to what should or should not receive locktite during assembly?
Another consideration would be to not use Locktite on any bolt surrounded by plastic, as Loctite anaerobic products can attack some thermoplastics and cause them to crack.

LOL I just finished (1/2 hr ago)doing the maintenance section in the service manual. I did everything, changed oils , adjusted clutch ,cleaned air filter and everything else in that section.
Manual did'nt say to use any locktite and I never thought about it. I guess that will give me something to do tomorrow.

Anytime I take a bolt or screw off I locktite it, not a lot just a drop will do.

basically your service manual will indicate when and what loctite to use.
something else you might try for those NON- CRITICAL parts,
your wifes nail polish. and if it's in a place you can get too later,
saturate it with polish remover and will break loose easier.

The muffler bolts under bag, I believe you're pulling my leg here.
My old 01 flhtci the bolts were nut and bolt on my 06 the nuts are
welded to bracket. But either way remove saddle bag, undo the bolt
and put a dab locktite on it and reassemble.
