Default Top end Noise

I know this has been covered before but would like to know how many others owners have a late model bagger ( 2009-2013, I've got a 2012 FLHTK ) with top end ticking at 2000-3000 RPM range. I've had it to two different dealers and talked to the techs and they were pretty confident that it was normal. I've had synthetic oil in it, and regular 20w-50, and it really made no difference. I'm pretty sure it was there from the start just didn't pay any attention to it, but, for the last 5000 miles I've been hearing it. and I kind of figure if it hasn't tore up anything since then they might be right, and it could possibly be normal. So I just wanted to hear from others that have this noise. And other than turn up the radio, or put on loader pipes is there anything a person can do to quiet it up, or do you just put up with it.
Thanks in advance Jonnierock

Try a non synthetic single grade oil. I run 50w in the summer. Made a difference.

On any other engine I'd worry about the top end clatter and ticking. With 38,000 miles on the bike its become the norm. If you don't want to turn up the tunes or get louder pipes then try ear plugs. Ride it and enjoy without worry.

Same thing on my 12 Ultra. I got on to ask about it and saw your post. We'll both see what others say on this.

Going from a metric to a SG the noise and rattle made me crazy. I spent tons of time on the internet trying to figure out if something was wrong. The BEST advice I got from the forums was that I should just shut up and ride it. If you spend time tryi g to figure out all he noises and rattles HD's make you will do two things:
1) go insane trying to figure it out and never will.
2) waste tons of time on the internet when you could be riding it.
Neither of the above will solve the rattles!

I have it too. It lets me know that my RK is running.
Think of it this way, It's better than Bottom end noise.

I have had 19 Harleys. My '90 FXSTC had it & my '00 Low Rider had it. Those were the only 2 & I bought 'em both new. Must be a zero numbered year thing.

Anyway, no problems with either. Just ride the muhfuh.

After market cams can cause a tick. But if it sounds like this your good to go.
