Default 2014 Speaker Access Question

I have a pair of Polk Audio Marine Grade 6.5" speakers that I had installed onto my 2013 that I would like to now install into my new 2014. Can't see buying the BOOM version for $200 when these Polks only cost $63 shipped and they sound awesome and I already have them!

To begin, I cannot look this up in the manual as I don't have it yet. I ordered the 2014 Service Manual but shipping ETA isn't till 9/23 so the earliest I probably will get it is end of month. Not wanting to wait two weeks, I would like to install these right away, hence the question due to no manual yet.

Question is I've opened up the fairing and checked out the new plastic enclosure of the speaker setup. Not sure how to get it off without removing every screw so looking to see if anyone has opened theirs up yet or has a manual already and can look this up.

I was told the speaker mount on the fairing can accept 6.5" speakers without an adapter but not a big deal if an adapter is needed since I still have the 5.25" to 6.5" adapter rings from the 2013 install.

Let us know how the Polk Audios sound when you get them in. Our local dealer had a workshop showing off the new upgrade Boom audio in a 2014 and I was blown away. A lot of work has gone into the new system components and the sound quality is unbelievable. It's not the same ol' stuff as before.

I just installed the boom speakers in my 14 SGS. Yes, you have to remove all 6 screws (2 different sizes) and 2 bolts.

Can't see it working with an adapter. The speakers are in a sealed housing now. An adapter might push them out too far where the outer fairing might not fit (but can't say for sure)

It is nice to actually hear Bass on a motorcycle. That being said, I also ordered the amp. Hoping to save up and install the bag lid speakers this winter.

Do you mind taking a pic of exactly which screws/bolts you removed? I vaguely remember the enclosure having screws on outside and directly on the enclosure itself. Hate to tear it down more than necessary. Pics would be helpful.

What do you think of the new Boom 6.5" speakers vs. the factory 5.25" speakers? Is the sound better, louder, crisper? Do the speakers put out significantly more sound or in your opinion does it sound like a minor improvement in volume?

Did you install your 6.5" into the stock mounts or was there an adapter required. Looking at the Boom speaker pics online doesn't look like there is an adapter included that they might just mount directly to the fairing. Would that be correct? Don't really want to tear down the fairing and enclosure only to find that HD changed this setup enough to make the Polks I have not easily installed and may be forced to buy the Boom speakers.

Any info will help and is most appreciated. Thanks for checking in and commenting on my question.

I am on the road this week. Can take pics this weekend.

The boom speakers mount right on to the white enclosure. The grills screw on to the inner fairing.

The Polks might mount right in (had to say, I should have tried a set of 6.5's I had in the garage) with a slight modification.

The speaker housing is also used as a mount for the inner fairing, I assume that is why there are so many mounting screws/bolts.

The booms add some bass, and are cleaner when the volume is cranked. I still find myself turning the volume to "11" sometimes.

I am still ordering the 4 channel amp but quite a back order on them right now. Winter project will be speakers in bag lids or lower fairings (not sure which ones) Wishing the bag lid speakers were 6x9's instead of 5x7's

I have to remove the faring on my friends new 2014 Limited to install the HD XM module. I have removed pre 2014 fairing dozens of times but am wondering if there is anything I should know before hand when removing his 2014?
Are the torque specs the same? Does the windshield come off the same way? I know there are two less screws but thats about it.
Thanks

Outer fairing easier to take off (no screws tucked in out of the way.)

Windshield comes off the same way. Take the 3 screws out, remove windshield. Put center screw back in by hand a few turns (so outer fairing wont drop when taking out other screws) Remove the screws on the back side of inner fairing. Hold the fairing in your hand and remove the center screw for windshield. (good idea to put a blanket or couple towels over the front fender)

Our local dealer has a Limited on the showroom floor with the Boom upgrade speakers and the one amp. Be prepared when you get your amp. It is freakin' unreal what it will do, and I'm not exaggerating. You'll be amazed!! They also have the second amp, saddlebag lid speakers and alternator upgrade kit on order to make it a full 300 watt system. I can't wait to hear that!!

I am looking forward to it.....dealer heard the same system at the meeting last month and is pushing to the same system. They were also amazed!

Gonna have to start saving!

Leaves are falling, less than a month of riding left, hope the parts come in soon.

I have my fairing and windshield off. I took off the screws on the plastic housing. I removed 2 bolts from the mount over the head unit. I even removed a bolt near the fork. Why can't I get the plastic piece off still?
