Living in FL, the really good thing about the T/C 88 vs the T/C 96 or 103 is the lack of heat the bigger engines produce.
I'm with others on the cam chain tensioners.
I had the S/E Hydraulic Cam Chain (updated version) kit installed in my 2000 Ultra before I sold it and it did increase the oil pressure and probably the cam life as well.
As for power, I had the 1550 (95 c.i.) Big Bore kit installed and you couldn't believe the difference in torque! It made the bike much more nimble and lighter, but some say that you can get almost as much performance replacing the stock cams (great time to do the S/E kit too).
So I've been cleaning up Dans Ultra and its coming out nice. I did fire it up and take it for a spin around the Neighborhood last night. I cant get past the engine shake at idle and just off idle. Its almost unbearable.
He priced it high because he know someone on CL would offer less. $7500 would be a fair price. I have n 04 EG and love it, glad I don't have a newer bike, they cost too much. Easy to fix and cheeper on insurance. But I too bought from a "friend" a co worker. I thought I was getting a good deal. It was a 75 Superglide. Bike was a POS but I didn't know anything about bike at that time, I took his word. But thats a long story, we would need at least a six pack to talk about.

'75 Superglide= AMF=total POS!! [I rode a '77 for 11 years] That's no comparison to the bike in question though!
Thanks to all for offering insight and advice. Its a great forum here and when the day comes to buy my Ultra(will most likely be the 103) I'll certainly be back and hopefully to contribute.
88 underpowered, no way. Old frame, new frame, I call bs on that unless you ride it like a crotch rocket and then maybe there is a benefit to it. The 88 is a very solid motor and as mentioned earlier, watch the cam chain tensioners.

It's interesting that some folks love the shake and others hate it! I love it and would hate it if it didn't shake. My buddy's softtail doesn't shake at idle but buzzes at speed. Idle shake is part of the bike's personality, to me at least...
