Default Tire help please

My 2010 SESG has an 18 inch rear wheel with the Dunlop D407 180/55 B18 80H OEM tire. 12K miles and down to the wear bars. I haven't been that impressed with the performance of the tire and I'm looking for an alternative. I've searched this site and the internet and haven't been able to find a replacement tire unless I go to a radial with a 74 load rating. Additionally, the D407(rear) and D408 (front) are only available from dealers and pretty expensive ($296 rear and $212 front). I can get them online from LSHD or LATUS for a little less.

Anybody know of an alternative. I know I can get the American Elite for the front but haven't found anything for the rear.

Thanks.

I wont be much help because I had good luck with both Michelin Commander and the E3. Little better life from the Michelin. Went with the American Eagle for the rear 2 months ago, so far so good.

I've read good things about both but neither one comes in the 18" for the rear

Myself & a couple of others have tried Avon, Metzeler, & Bridestone radials, none got more than 5-6K. You'll just have to stick with the D407 until they come out with that size in the Am Elite. Try running 42-44# air pressure, most have been getting 13-15K out of the 407s.

Thanks for the input. Hopefully by the time I run through the next set there will be other options available.

You are suffering from the consequence of using custom sized wheels for which there are no suitable bagger tyres! Those available for your current rear wheel are generally V speed rated, come with less tread depth and are made with softer rubber. Go back to a stock sized wheel and you'll be fine!

In all fairness to the OP, those 18" rear wheels are "stock sized" for his bike.
2010 CVO Street Glide came with 180/70-18 from the factory.

Ooops! Avon does a Cobra in 180/55, but that is only load range 74. There is still a problem in having an odd custom wheel size and hence rare tyre.
