I rode I-70 across Colorado this week. Even the interstate is beautiful in Colorado. Their is no water issues there and if you get to the Grand Junction area there is a lot to see there.
Avoid what we call The Front Range. Essentially anything on the Denver side of the Continental Divide. There is no way to get to: Estes Park or Lyons. The flooding destroyed every east-west road into the mountains North of I-70. Colorado Springs has had flooding. As has Longmont and Loveland.
Go west. The Durango/Silverton/Ouray area is gorgeous. Anywhere along I-70 is ok and I-70 is a scenic highway.
Colorado Springs, Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs and everything down here is open for business. National Park and CDOT has more info on the roads. Lots of good ideas already, I'll just say ride safe and enjoy your time out here!
Mile High HD has a small plastic fold out map for 5.00 with ride routes around the Denver area. Idaho Springs is a nice stop for lunch. There is a lot of road work on 103 with a few miles of dirt and gravel. Ride Safe.....
I have a great relationship with Rocky Mountain H-D...I'd check the rental rates there if I were you- they have/had an associated rental business.
The ride to the West and South on 285 is pleasant, and depending on your time offers a few connecting routes East to I25 to blast back North to Denver.
Much of the ride is in a mountain valley ( so warmer, fewer weather surprises) with great vistas.
riding in the mountains you really need to be head's up for the weather- systems form and change quickly and you can't always see it coming

Get a dopplar app for your phone and check it as you ride for changing cells. Just got back from PP last week, if youre going there call ahead, they were having downhill skatebord races and they are filming fast and furious 7 so theres a good chance it could be closed. Left CS the morning Estes Park got flooded, one member of the group wanted to go to Estes, luckily we didnt. I think Manitou Springs is still battered and recovering. I agree on Ouray, Silverton, mesa Verde and hit Wolfcreek Pass, very scenic.
