Default Need advice on wheels

I would like to get mag wheels, primarily for the benefit of having tubeless tires. I figure the two options I have would be to either by new rims someplace or search Craigslist, eBay or the local swap meet, right? Also, HDforums.
I know a lot of wheels get posted for sale when someone changes out the wheels on their new bike, but mine is a 2001 RK, so the new wheels won't fit. Probably not a lot of used Mags from older Touring bikes, right?

Any of you guys ever convert your spoke rims to tubeless?

Don't know if you're in orange county FL or CA but... Scour the independent shops for these. A lot of them will have older wheels. If you are in FL, call Red Beard's cycle barn in Mims, FL. They've got all kinds of old stuff, tear offs etc. Swap meets usually have a ton of them as well.

eBay is a good resource for used wheels. '00-'06 should fit.

Was the 1st thing I did on my 07 FLHT, for spokes went out in the 70's. I much prefer the tubeless aspect for flats on the road can be resolved with a simple plug versus patching a tube.
The MoCo offers some pretty sharp after market wheels and many are cheaper that the after market world. I put the contrast chrome agitators on my FLHTC a couple months ago and did so a fair amount cheaper than the aftermarket world offered them.
Some of the newer wheels may be able to fit yours with a simple bearing change if the axle sizes are different.

the front, yes. but not the rear. the newer rear wheels are a good bit wider and won't fit in the fender.

You're saying the wheels from HD are cheaper than other aftermarket wheels?

yep. they are. chrome agitators run $799 each (gone up $50 since the 2014 release) for the chrome or black chrome. contrast cut are cheaper. and that price is comparable for their other wheel options as well.

aftermarket wheels are (mostly) priced much higher than that.

Hd wheels are cheaper for several reasons. First off they sell the bearings and stuff separate which is a marketing ploy. Second, the wheels are cast not billet meaning the metal is poured into a mold as opposed to the wheel being cut out of billet aluminum. Once you add up the wheel, tires, labor to install the bearings, tires and put them on the bike they are no less expensive. It's all in how it is marketed.

Furthermore, they only offer certain sizes where there are plenty of other companies who offer all sizes. The MoCo has stringent rules to follow being such a large corporation and really does not get too in to wheels. Their knowledge is limited and they are extremely concerned about liability (as any company should be) but my advice is to call a shop who deals in wheels specifically and talk to them.
