this had probably been covered a thousand times but what kind of life can I expect out of a factory front tire on a street glide.
the reason I ask is that if I remove my hands from the bar for just a second it starts vibrating slightly and quickly grows in to a full blown head shake,.
I got 22,000 out of my first front and 21 out of my second. Probably should have replaced them sooner. Both times I had the same thing you are talking about at low speeds, 30 or so. As soon as I replaced the tire it stopped. Both were Harley Dunlop's. I've got a Commander II on now, as I'm getting great results with the rear I put on 16,000 ago.
Tire cupping could cause the problems that both of you have described also. But that issue is more of a factor of poor maintenance ( running low air pressure ). You may be able to see "cupping" if you look at the edge of the tire from the side. It will look wavey.

thanks in advance
How often do you check your tire pressure? Have you greased the neck bearings?
