Stopped at gas station. Attempted to start it up. Horrible grinding sound. Stopped. Tried again, and started trying to start. Stopped. Tried again, started no problem.
Happened twice in same day. After second time, I noticed while riding the Oil Pressure gauge was constantly going from 5 to 31.. even while at same speed for a good distance.
Bike running fine, not noticeably hotter. Oil Temp gauge sits at 190 as normal for 40 min from work to home.
Could also be coincidental and the oil sending unit is faulty and has nothing to do with the noise. Noise as "grinding" when attempting to start could be starter clutch, issue with jack shaft and ring gear, etc.
dawg is correct as usual...But don't take this lightly. The cam cover on the right hand side needs to be pulled and the cam plate, oil pump and cams removed. The camshaft is now exposed and the use of a dial indicator while cranking the engine determines how "out of round" the crankshaft is.
If that's the problem, you rebuild the motor.
Clink, clank grind on hot restarts is common on '07 and later Twin Cams and may have nothing to do with the oil pressure.
One way or the other it needs to be checked out soon.
