I had a 2001 RKC and had reached the point in my life where I was touring more and wanted some tunes for the long trips. I ask several questions on the internet and NEVER got a good straight answer. The folks at 2wheels were great to work with but I never felt I got a straight answer about quality of sound.
I finally bought the set up from an on line dealer at $500.00 less 20%. Plus I added the volume control, $80 +/-, which is a must.
I installed it on the King and the results were as follows:
Sitting at home on the driveway... GREAT SOUND
At speeds of 35-50 with the windshield on... GOOD SOUND
At speeds of 50-65 with the windshield on... Fair sound, however several times if I did not know the words to the song, I would not have had any idea what was on.
At speeds over 65 with the windshield on... DONâT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY
You will be disappointed.
If all you want it for is around town then it is a good set up.
I sold mine on ebay, lost about $200. Then traded for a Street Glide. No regrets but a costly sound system. LOL
I hope this helps, I wish I could have gotten this type of reply before I made the purchase.
With this said the folks at 2wheel tunes are great people to deal with.
I have to agree with 60 mike. I have a set that I took off my 03 RK but I added the HIGHWAY ACOUSTICAL LENSES they do help a bit at highway speeds. Anyway I installed an aftermarket fairing with a sound system built in and I'm about to put this whole system up on ebay. If you're interested I'll sell here. Email me if you are interested. carl0504@optonline.net
Same here...i also tried the system....couldn't hear a thing past 60mph...went with a fairing with a hawg wired amp and kevlar speakers with cross-overs...now i can hear crystal clear sounds at 90mph+...the kenwood head unit also has an ipod adapter where it connects with the bottom of the ipod, charges it, and allows you to keep it in the saddle bag and control it from the head unit...if you are serious about tunes, this is the way to go...have a 2005 road king and the streetglide came out in 06.....so now i have a streetking!!
Thanks for the info. My s/o has already bought it for me and i will be putting it on the bike this weekend while i install some other upgrades. One more question the installation instruction's are very vague, what is the best way to power wire it with out cutting into wires?
They sell a plug that plugs in under the seat for about $25.00 No cutting..It plugs to the existing wiring harness. This is what I did. Hope you like it better then me. Good Luck
If you have any questions about install call the factory guys they are very nice to work with. Also I hooked mine up temporaly to see how it sounded... BAD MISTAKE I had to cut the plugs off the speakers and install new ones.
Nice looking Street King, I thought about this but by the time I bought the faring, radio and painted it I would have about the same in it that I traded for a left over 06 SG.
