I wear a Half around town and short trips. I have a Bell Star Carbon for long hwy rides. Also have a Bell Revolution Evo modular.
If you're interested, I have a Shoei Multitec modular (XL) for sale.
I am 1/2 helmet user and did same thing for long trip(4500 mile)to Sturgis etc in 2010. I bought a 3/4 HJC IS-33. It has 2 shields one half shield built in helmet spring loaded and also a outer shield. It worked out great! Harley rebranded this helmet under there name but more expsensive.
I have that exact same helmet its very nice once the temp drops below 50 I wear a vega modular full face. I wear a 1/2 most of the local riding season and it feels really weird 1st time I wear the FF just because of the extra weight.
I have the Shoei MultiTec modular I wear for the long rides and for colder weather. I installed my J&M earphones and it is not only comfy but pretty quiet with the face flipped down. At my age it is all about function over form!!
HATE HATE HATE riding with a full face..... My choice for long rides is always my biltwell, non-dot 3/4.... Comfortable, light, good vision and cuts the wind noise... If the weather turns nasty I just throw on a bandana.

I have a couple of different 1/2 I wear most of the time and a Shoei Qwest FF I used to wear on long trips.
I now have a Bell 500 3/4 that I love. Its light, comfortable great peripheal vision and has a snap on visor for rain.
The Shoei is a great helmet in the rain but I feel closed in. Its the smartest helmet to wear but I dont use it much anymore.
I second that ear plugs are really important especially on long trips. I use Shure earbuds so I am not going doubly deaf from wind and blasting stereo.
I agree with the statement wearing a fullface is like sticking your head in a bucket. I also feel I have much less awareness with a fullface. I prefer wearing a 1/2 helmet along with foam ear plugs. Before taking an almost 5,000 mile trip I went back and forth trying to decide between a 3/4 with a flip down shield or my Outlaw 1/2 helmet. I ended up wearing the Outlaw and had no regrets.
