I have an HJC 3/4 with the built in visor and its identical to my buddys HD 3/4 for almost $100 less

"Manufactured for Harley-Davidson by HJC"

I've seen KBC and HJC as makers of Harley's helmets for the most part these days.

Good point and I know I am sacrificing safety by wearing a half, but it's a chance I take. Any suggestions on better manufacturer's? I have no brand loyalty and besides helmets, avoid pretty much any accessory made by Harley.

Fulmer may be low end but they do work. Had one of their modular helmets when I crashed big time last year. It was nearly in two pieces when the dust settled but I survived. Got a chipped tooth and concussion as well as several cracked vertebrae, rib and collar bone. Worst was pylon fracture of leg. I bought the same helmet to replace the busted one. It did it's one use job. What else could you want. Spend 4 times that and still have to replace it if it actually got used. I'm satisfied the low end stuff does the job.

I've had HJC helmets for motocross for years, and the protection has been as good as others costing way more. Lord knows you get to test them in that environment. Like someone else says, it only has to do its job once, then replace it. No helmet can protect against every injury, gotta pick what you feel will do the best for you.

Dude, buy the HJC. Shoot....nobody is making their own stuff anymore these days. Half the stuff we wear and own are not made by the "label" on it. The same can be said about flat screens and all this brand loyalty stuff....a few manufacturers mass producing parts used by everyone else. Please do not think that HJC is inferior to something with the word Harley on it....I raced for many years and have trashed my fair share of helmets...to include HJCs. Many guys wearing the HD 3/4 helmet do not even realize they are wearing a HJC, yet they scream "ONLY HARLEY" for me. I'm not one to put my safety at risk to save a few dollars...but HJC makes that 3/4 helmet with the small visor for HD. Its the same!!

My neighbor took her Lexus to Raleigh because the local Toyota dealership wanted to repair her car with a Toyota part and she said....that part isn't as good as the Lexus part. Yeah!!

Arai and Shoei. I've got two Arai Profiles and an XD3. The Profiles are really comfortable, don't buffet as much as any other helmet I've ever used, and the liner feels good. Arai's shields are PITA to swap until you learn the secret hand-shake, and then you can change them without needing a mirror or taking the helmet off. Just watch the videos and it'll make sense.

Others with a good rep are: AGV, Schubert, Bell, Shark.

Helmets with a less-than-great rep for quality in finish: HJC, KBC, Scorpion, Icon, GMax, BiLT. There's plenty of evidence that they protect just as well, but I've seen and read about too many of their parts fall off or break in normal use.

Hope this helps,

Default Arai and Shoei

I went to several non H-D m/c dealers that carry the above mentioned helmets. Tried on many till I found one with the fit and finish I liked. Made note of the make/model then did a web search for lowest price with shipping.

You know wearing a 1/2 vs a full will determine either open or closed casket
