I never thought I would say this, but the price increase of the 2014 bikes and parts is giving me second thoughts about Harleys. I love their nostalgic style, so I will always have one. But I've been wanting to do a lot more touring and wanted a Harley that performs like a Goldwing. I think Harley now has that with 2014s, so I was pretty excited until the price sobered me up.
Now I'm considering the idea of owning to used bikes for the price of one 2014 Ultra Limited. My SG is nearly paid off, so I'm thinking a used Goldwing for the touring. I may even trade the SG for a RK to customize and satisfy my nostalgic urges. I also like the older Heritages. But I don't see myself considering a Harley for touring as of this moment.
dollar for dollar, the bikes did not go up much from last year. course, if you are comparing a bone stock touring bike without security, abs, etc. to one that now includes those options standard, then yeah, it's gonna be sticker shock. but look at the price difference between one with abs, security, and cruise, and it isn't that much different.
