Just got my '06 RK (w/12k) back in March, and have put 8k on the clock.Actually the first 2-3 weeks I hated it and was ready to sell it.Was major "culture shock" coming from choppers/customs since 70's (however did spend some time on a '62 Duo Glide and a '50 Hydra Glide-but that was early/mid '80s).After about a month,I was in the mindset that the RK doesn't belong in town-it needs to be out in the open road, which there IS a lot of around here. But now I like how it feels "planted" in OR out of town.My chopper feels like a bicycle now.BTW,I'd change both tires AND wheel bearings for piece of mind.Yeah,H-D batteries are good.I'm still running the original battery in mine. You might want to check the cables and do a voltage drop test to make sure your's is ok.

OP, if you've been riding for a while, this new bike should take nothing more than a few miles to get used to. If you are newer to riding, take a Rider's Edge course, that are very, very beneficial. I took the advanced RE program last spring, and it was great. Highly recommend it.

As for batteries, the HD one is good, but more expensive than it needs to be. Shop around and you can find something less expensive. And I'm sure someone will chime in soon with a brand-name to look for (I can't remember the names right now).

I came to my King from a dyna. The King handles like a dream. I can do slow speed circles, stop with out putting a foot down (unless I am gonna be stuck for more than a couple of seconds, I am not an acrobat) and can out manuver my dyna. Perhaps that is because the King fits me better (the dyna always felt small) or perhaps its a better balanced bike. Either way, it is called the King for a reason...
