Default lowering my Road King

My first post! Have been lurking for awhile and really enjoy the forum!! My 2007 Road King Classic is in the shop having front end work done. I was going to have the front end lowered 1" w/factory kit. The parts book specifically says that you must alsoinstall the low profile touring shocks if you lower the front end. Naturally no one at the MoCo has mentioned this. Is this really necessary? HD also has a big disclaimer about lowering the scoot- will affect handling, jiffy stand may not fit etc. Any one have experience with this? I dont want to have foot boards catch on corners etc. but I do like the look of a lowered bike- Thanks for your help!!

I have an 07 and mine was lowered before I bought it. Don't know if it has the low profile shocks, but I can tell you I love the ride. Jiffy fits just fine and I have yet to scrape boards and I've ridden some real twisties here in Washington.

I think you're hearing the usual "cover my azz" disclaimers, although lowering too much could be an issue.

I lowered the front and rear on my 06' RKC. I scrape the left side semi-regularily, especially with 2-up riding. I used to think it was the floorboards, but it is the kickstand that scrapes.I have yet to scrape the right side. I did not replace the kickstand.

Thanks- I think I will lower both ends- the warning sounds awful specific- Wonder why HD didn't bring it up?

It only scrapes when you corner hard and lean that puppy like a crotch rocket, do it once or twice and you start to get the idea that you are leaning to much. I worry about dragging my bags now. Need to get an air ride Buddy's Hi- Lo system. It was featured in one of the bagger rags last month.

AirRide Systems are nice but $$$$$$ You should lower the rear atleast as much as the front 1" - You can pick-up lowering air shocks on E-Bay for less then $150.00 - or Street Glide take offs for less then $100.00 Other options might be Progressive Replacement shocks or Other Non-Air in the rear and get away with the air shocks (440's are better then the 412's)
One thing you really have to consider... By lowering the rear you're will shorten the shock reach and this will take away some of the OEM Ride Comfort...
Last and the cheapest way would be to install lowering cams to the rear and maintain your 13" OEM rear air shocks
