I'm not trying to tell anybody what do do,but just want to make sure everyone has the risk's straight. If you ride these bikes at all I would imagine all of your insurances would be void if something was to happen.I just can't risk it.People aren't supposed to ride their bikes in,the dealers are supposed to trailer them in.
There is no way i wouldnt ride mine. U take a chance of some 17 year old runnin your a** over every time u swing a leg over your bike and now your skeerd of riding it because of a clutch. Its not a bad axle issue or a steering head issue. Come on run with scissors in yur hand once and while
Geez, until you get your official notice in the mail, you don't know squat. Just because you read it on the net means nothing. Rumors run amuck there. But then I don't have one so I have a little less skin in the game.
This is a quote from the letter dealers got late Wednesday afternoon/evening.
"The remedy is to confirm that the motorcycle is affected by this recall.
If the motorcycle is affected it will require the clutch master cylinder to be rebuilt
using the recall repair kit. If affected, an inspection will also need to be
performed to confirm that the clutch release plate is correct. If it has the
mechanical cable style clutch release plate (p/n 37903-90) it will require
replacement with a hydraulic clutch release plate (p/n 37000111)".
DID the Infotainment upgrade no problem.
As far as the Clutch, I will ride it until the 1000 mile service. Then they can pick it up, do the recall and service. May the force be with you.
Something else to keep in mind. The moco has a general idea of which bikes got the bad parts. To be safe, they recall bikes that were built before and after the suspected run of bad parts. After the recall starts, they will get a better idea of the time frame (vin break point) that has bad parts. If they suspect say 50,000 bikes have suspect parts, they will recall a total of 100,000 bikes. 25,000 before the time frame, the 50,000 in the middle, and 25,000 after. They have to be sure that some of those bad parts weren't laying around and got stuck in some early or later bikes. Personally I would ride mine if I had one. Even though hd has contacted owners, you would still have a good leg to stand on, and a good case in court if you got injured due to failure because of the recalled parts. I've seen it in the automotive world. For some people their bike is their only transportation. If the dealer doesn't offer a loaner, you have to ride what ya got.
After 2400 trouble free miles and no issues, it is very tempting to ride this weekend, Probably going to be the last weekend we will see anything close to the 70's. However, I ride all year including winter with the Patriot Guard. So I will let it sit and be on the safe side. Maybe jump in the Jeep with the wife and go do some shopping. Maybe just be a couch potato. Maybe borrow my buddies 08 Soft Tail, or 02 Heritage. It's not going to be the end of the world to be safe for a few days. When my Limited is back, I always have heated gear if I need it and I won't be paranoid sitting at light focused on worrying if the clutch will work. Do the right thing and be safe........Dealer picking mine up Tuesday morning and if it's one of the good ones I have it back Tuesday afternoon.
Now that I know, definitely not. If something happens as a direct result of the clutch after you were notified (I was by email), you're probably on your own. They are coming to pick mine up Monday morning.
My 14 SGS is at the dealer now waiting for the parts to arrive tomorrow.
Its a 13 Limited and its a total piece of sh!#!
Pretty bummed Im riding a loaner and with all the problems Im having with 14 bikes (Limited buy back and now this)
With all the problems you've had with both of your 2014's and you're calling the 2013 loaner a piece of ****? Ouch! I'll bet there are plenty of 2009-2013 owners that don't agree with that perspective, but hopefully all the 2014 owners get this and other issues resolved quickly.
I've had more than my fair share of issues with my 2010 but never had to fight Harley to buy it back like some 2014 owners have.
(No, don't have a 2014 but don't think I'm breaking any state or federal laws by posting. Oh oh, here comes the forum police...)
