This is a quote from the letter dealers got late Wednesday afternoon/evening.
"The remedy is to confirm that the motorcycle is affected by this recall. If the motorcycle is affected it will require the clutch master cylinder to be rebuilt
using the recall repair kit. If affected, an inspection will also need to be
performed to confirm that the clutch release plate is correct. Ifit has the
mechanical cable style clutch release plate (p/n 37903-90) it will require
replacement with a hydraulic clutch release plate (p/n 37000111)".
Took mine in yesterday for the 1000 mile service... Told them to keep it until the clutch problem is resolved. I know they were happy that I had it on my trailer so they didn't have to pick it up! They said parts should arrive next week. Luckily I was the first one to get to the dealer in my area!
I'm just glad I took a long weekend trip LAST weekend!!! I hate it for you guys who had plans for this next week. Bummer.
If they find the wrong clutch release plate installed, can this be fixed by only removing the derby cover or does the primary cover need to be removed.
i would think the primary would come off regardless to check for any further damage.. but then again some HD techs never cease to amaze me with their level of incompetence.
Has anyone else been told the parts are to arrive at the dealer on Monday the 21st? After reading around I'm beginning to wonder if the parts will really arrive on Monday or if they are being shipped out on Monday.
Man, can you imagine the problems for the dealers associated with this recall. They must be sh!tt!ng themselves. Having to pick up all the bikes, space to store all of them that come in, pissed off customers, no time for the normal service of other bikes, more pissed off customers. The trickle down effect must be a nightmare. Used to fantasize about being a Harley mechanic. But I bet the next month or 2 is really gonna suck.
