For some stupid reason there is not enough insulation in heated liners to trap the generated heat under my jacket alone, so you get hot and cold spots much below 50F. I wear my jacket, jacket liner and then the heated liner if it gets really cold.
I live in the Pacific Northwest, and ride all year unless there's ice and snow on the ground. The heated gear is an absolute must! My wife and I have the Gerbing Jackets and gloves. Never felt the need to get the pants. Like Tony said, a thin fleece or the jacket liner over the heated gear helps keep them warmer. We would buy them again in a heartbeat!
Got to use mine for the first time yesterday morning on a PGR mission. Was 37ş when I left the house. First time I was ever comfortable in temps below 40ş. Only thing I don't like is wires all over the place. But being warm I guess makes it okay. Got a controller and had everything working, then started the bike and red light came on. Had to turn controller off and back on to get it working again. Is that normal? I shouldn't have to ask that. It's a Harley so been trained by dealer, of course it's normal. But is it really?
Yup- I got my Gerbing jacket liner & gloves last winter and wondered the same thing- Why the heck did I wait so long?
They are expensive, but worth every penny. No such thing as too cold to ride any more.
I have over a grand invested in Gerbings but that is because my gloves were sent in for warranty work and I bought a second pair when I was on a cold ride. Also started with the boot liners but decided to go with the socks and SOOOOO much warmer. I DO NOT get cold!!!!!
Worth every penny. I've had it almost 4 years now. Just yesterday, put on the plug-in on my recently traded for Ultra. I've had it on both bikes. I took a full speed interstate 65 mile ride on the Sporty no less with temps in single digits. I was toasty warm.
