Thanks xglide06. Looking at the pipe I'm assuming the heat would come from that rear loop. Another option I might try if the wrap doesn't work out will be to install a set of those plastic heat deflectors that go right under the seat. I now find myself constantly going back checking the pipes on your bike. I just love the looks of those pipes.
My tech will be doing the work. I have a few other things going on that's going too push my bike notbeing ready for at least another 3-5 weeks according to my tech. I'm also installing the Thundermax autotune(which is back ordered), also the new S&S dual air induction system and I'm powder coating the rims. I think the rims are going too take the longest amount of time. I'm also replacing my stock front fender with a RWD RG fender that sits lower then stock. I got the idea from the RWD Road glide bike that was in the last issue of American bagger.
Once I get her back I'll post some pics. Thanks again!
That's a very good idea Phil. I want to give the wraps a shot first cause that's the look that I was going for. If that doesn't pan outceramic coating the shields should do the trick.
Had the Road Rage on the SG last summer and it literally baked me off the bike. Very Hot! Plus the black coating really started to degrade around the rear cylinder loop section. Don't know if they have changed the coating yet, but Jet Hot is much better than the stuff Bassani had on my black Road Rage. Switched to the Fat Cat and though I really liked the clear aluminum finish on the tip of the Bassani, the Fat Cat was much cooler with the heat shield and the finish on the D&D pipe was superior to the Rage. In my my mind the Rage was a louder thean the FC.
It was the rear cylinder loop.....major heat even with a well tuned bike with a PCIII....the design of the Bassani Road Rage rear Pipe just invites extra heat at that point....they make a heat sheild for the Road Rage but Bassani charges mucho $$$ for it and the Fat Cat includes them. Maybe a Jet Hot coating for the RR may cool it down a bit and certainly improve the look but I don't think it will help enough. I sent my first RR pipe back to Bassani after the black finish popped off.....took them forever to make the exchange and in the mean time just bought the Fat Cat.....ended up just selling the new replacement RR on ebay and being done with it. I liked the sound better on the RR over the FC but not the fit and finish
Thanks fimduc, your info is very helpful. That's exactly what I thought looking at the pipe. Supposedly they are ceramic coated all the way up into head. I think I'll just tell my tech to wrap the pipe and that loopright from the get go. I'l let you know how it turns out. It'll be a few weeks due to other parts that are back ordered.
