I'll bump this topic to the top. I just rode a route with my '14 SGS today and the GPS wanted me to turn more often than I had planned and to do circles, etc. After getting home, I played with the settings a bit and ended up turning off route recalculation. This I think may solve a lot of the problems from the posts above.

My question is I am trying to export the data on the gps, and I get the message saying it wrote it to my usb drive as HD_Data.gpx or something close, but when I hook it up to my computer there is nothing there at all. Any ideas??

Well I figured how to download the route, but even with route recalculation off, it still has me doing circles near subdivisions etc. Any ideas? I'm using BaseCamp and saving it as a *.gpx file, and the Boombox is reading it just fine, but the bad info that the gps is giving me is quite disconcerting.

It sounds to me like you have not zoomed in close enough when your selecting your waypoint. That is critical that you zoom in enough to see where the point is at and it's where you intend to travel.

I also found this weekend while riding that if you move down to the name of the road on the map with the right controller you can go into the planned route and avoid roads on your route the it recalculated the route to the next way point without riding on the newly avoided route. You can also go in and restore it in the same area.

I wish it was that simple but when navigating between 2 points it has me routing into subdivisions, dirt roads etc. all the while bringing me back to the road I am using. Sometimes it'll route me to a point that doesn't exist in my route (a yellow flag out in the middle of nowhere.) Also, the compass pointer many times points to the south rather than north, screwing up the directions even more. This gps really needs a major firmware update.

I can't figure out what the compass is pointing to. Yesterday I basically rode in a 50 mile loop, 4 times, just trying to double-check the problems I'm having with the 14 Ultra in general. I strapped my Garmin cage GPS on the handlebars. The Ultra compass just seemed to randomly pick a direction to point towards and rarely was it accurate.

A $40,000 cars Nav System is crap too. So why would a $29,000 bike be any different? An after market headhunt or any decent Garmin will be light years ahead of any stock system. My Garmin 2555LMT is a ton better at navigating than the new infotainments. It has a lot more Navi features too.

After completing a 2500+ run to Arizona and back to OKC a few weeks ago, I believe I finally figured out the compass issue.

• IF you've got the GPS set to NORTH UP, then the arrow will always predictably point (you guessed it), UP.

• IF you've got the GPS set to TRACK UP, then the arrow does not indicate North - rather it will indicate your direction of travel relative to North.

Yes, this is altogether different from any other GPS system I've ever used. But, once I got my head wrapped around it, it wasn't a problem for me.

I believe someone on this thread (or another similar thread) tried to tell me and others how this worked and I was guilty of basically dismissing them outright. I don't recall who it was, but to that gentleman I offer a sincere apology.

Now, as for the routing issues, I have no idea, as I've not tried to do any routing.

Steve

I had a feeling this would be an issue with the bult in GPS. Somedays I wish I would have waited on getting a 14 instead of a 13, but some somedays, esp when I hear things like that, I am glad I got my 13 instead of the 14. Z

Without seeing your setup it is hard to say what the problem is, but it sounds to me like you have the unit set on scenic, I always set my GPS on "fastest". If you are really careful about the placement of waypoints and set the unit on fastest, I think it will eliminate most of your problems.
