But what if you want to avoid Highways etc and use Back Roads even on a long trip .would there still be a problem????????
I travel back roads 90% of the time. You won't have a problem staying on your desired route if you use enough waypoints. This is where the limit on 9 can create a problem. I can usually get a 150-200 miles with 9 waypoints even when I travel the less traveled. Hopefully, HD will increase the waypoint limit soon.
Usually, when I download the route, I test it to make sure it stays on my desired route. If it doesn't go where i want to go, I can see the problem and add the necessary waypoints.

I thought that too, so I made sure it was on shortest or fastest. I still got the same thing.
In regards to the post above about the North arrow showing position relative to north versus where north is, I was traveling East on a highway and the North arrow was pointing off to my right - a relative direction of west being indicated based on the above description. I stand by my original statement - a new firmware is in need.

When my route shows the preview everything looks good. when I'm on the route, then the subdivision and dirt road routing goes into effect.

Scott, perhaps I wasn't clear in my explanation.
When you are in the TRACK UP configuration, the arrow is not a "North" arrow. The arrow now only defines your heading relative to north. And in this configuration, North is always an assumptive 12 o'clock position on the compass rosette, just as it is on almost any formal hard-copy map. In your example you state that you were traveling East. The arrow pointing to the right would indeed be indicating an easterly heading, the very direction you were traveling.
I'm not surprised that there is so much confusion on this issue, as NO ONE else manufacturers a GPS in which the compass rosette/arrow behave in this fashion. But, once you get your head around the concept, it does actually work.
Hope that clears up my previous poor attempt at explaining this.

Thinking on it, yes your explanation does make sense. I'll have to try doing a route and pull up the compass page to see if it matches the arrow in route view.
I'm sorry but I don't have any solutions for the problems related to custom routing issues.
I do have a 14 SGS that I have put about 1000 miles on. Like others I am quite frustrated with custom routing function on the stock GPS system. I cannot get it to work properly. Like others I find it doesn't follow my route correctly and at times reroutes me even when I don't know it.
Since I am a back road long distance rider this is something that really upsets me. I am headed to Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee in a few weeks and I am thinking my GPS is going to be pretty much worthless on the trip.
I won't go on an on since others have already stated the problems. I am just hooking up to this thread in the hopes someone else comes up with a solution.
I just picked up a 2014 StreetGlide Special with the 6.5 Boom Box, the problem is I have no navigation or GPS functions at all. Everything else works on the Infotainment system, but when I click on the Navigation button all I get is a compass with "?" for the direction indicators. I just had the bike to the dealer to updated the software and that didn't help and they didn't seem to know the answer. When I go into system settings, then navigation, I can click on either software, Hardware, etc and nothing happens, as if there is no navigation loaded, but talking with dealers it was standard on the 6.5 boom box.
is there a gps antenna connected? wonder if the po had an aftermarket radio installed and switched it out when they sold the bike and just threw in the old radio to fill the hole?
