Default Shocks

I am looking for new shocks. I have 10k miles on my stock shocks. 90% of it two up. And... we are at the GVWR. Over with stuffed bags and tour pack.

In a sweeping freeway turn I get the movement that tells me it is time for shocks.

I have been searching around here for the last couple of hours looking for recommendations.

I see Progressive has the 970 shock for baggers now. Supposedly designed for loads at maximum GVWR. They have a remote "something or other" so one does not need to remove the bags to adjust them.

I have heard good things about Progressive shocks.

I was wondering if there is a gas shock with an air bag incorporated into it for load adjustment.

Arnott has this system;

anyone have it? Opinions?

No experience with any of them, but I've been doing the same research for my Limited Ultra. I'm solo about 90% of the time, and I think I'm going with the HD Premium. It was between those and Progressive 944.

I have buddy who both he and his wife are big folks. They run progresssives on their Ultra and speak well of them.

Do you happen to know which Progressives he is running?

I ran the progressive coil overs for quite a while and was VERY happy with the ride quality. Riding solo, or 2-up, they made a significant difference over the stock H-D air-shocks.

I swapped them in favor of the custom 'Corvette' air ride modification (search 'corvette air ride' here on the forum and you will get a lot of info). The 'corvette' mod is WAY cheaper than the Arnott and the ride quality is not as good as the Progressive, but better than the stock shocks. Coolness factor for the 'on the fly' ride height adjustment is off the charts though.

The shortest route to comfort and nirvana is to call HDF shocks guru Howard at Motorcycle Metal. He will custom build you a set of JRI or Ohlins and ensure you get the correct springs as well as a first class ride.

Only after you have adjusted/tested your factory shock psi settings and was still unhappy, I would take a serious look at the HD Premium Shocks.
No way would I give a $GRAND$ to Pecker Head Howard.
Call him up if you like; easy to see how he got that name.
Five Bens per shock? What a joke...

I am a big fan of Ricor Shocks. Have them on my 2011 FXDC. They provide excellent road handling and traction while smoothing out bumps and potholes. Very easy to adjust the preload by hand no tools required. Not a big fan of progressive/multirate springs. In my opinion a single rate spring with proper shock is a much better design.
I am waiting for the delivery of my new 2014 SGS which comes with Harely premium shocks hopefully they do good enough job to stay on the bike for a while and I don't have to swap them out right away.
