Default Cable adjustment.??

Swapped my grips on 05 ULTRA. Still winter here a bit so can not check things out. Can anyone give cable adjustment tricks and also advise if anything needs to be adjusted for the cruise control. I backed both cable adjutments right off, lost and found the brass furrel and after all that seems I got it put back together. Now I am unsure though I read the manual on how to make sure cable adjustment is correct and read also about cruise control back lash or something..What does and does not need to be done..Thanks

shouldnt be much of an issue. You can check some on this in your garage.
[ol][*]adjust the cluth cable to as close to before as you remember.[*]See if the cluth lever has a bit of resistance...as it feels like it is actually engaging the clutch.[*]Start the bike in neutral.[*]hold the front brake.[*]Engage the clutch and put the bike into first gear.[*]disengage the clutch...if the bike wants to roll forward, the cluth adjustment is too short...make the cable longer at the turnbuckle.[*]if you cannot change gears easily the cluth adj is too long...make the turnbuckle shorter.[/ol]I suggest to leave the rubber cover off the turnbuckle and couple wrenches in your pocket until you can get then adjusted correctly. It took me about 2 miles of stopping/starting on the back road to get it right. But the above steps are a good starter.

Now ya have me confused. I changed grips so did not touch the clutch at all..I am asking about throttle cable adjustment and if anything needs to be done to adjust or reset the CRUISE CONTROL..I do not think anyone would have to touch the clutch when changing grips.??

Just adjust both the nuts under the throttle untill you have very little play in the throttle (you need a little play in the throttle) and the throttle movement is smooth and snaps back smoothly when the throttle is released.

Don't get it too tight, because the adjustment will change slightly when you move the handlebars.

There is no adjustment for the cruise at this point. If you have trouble getting the cruiseto stay onyou may have to re-adjust the throttle more forward toward the front of the bike, and take up the slack with the other adjuster.

Hope you put a wedge in the brake lever before removaloryou could have broken the brake light switch. You will know if your brake lights stay on when the ignition is on.

And what about reset the backlash or whatever they call it on the CRUISE CONTROL..Manual mentions it. Will it need to be done or not.

Do the same for both the "push" and "pull" cables ~ just a little slack in both cables.

There is a process for reseting the cruise control in the svc manual, but I have NEVER needed to use it. I have had three (3) different throttle bodies on my bike and all I have ever done is hook it up & the crusie works just fine.

yes you should run the backlash test anytime you make cable adjustments. Make sure you have the throttle and idle cables adjusted correctly. Check these forums links:

Adjust the throttle cable so that when fully open it is jst making contact with stoper(behind air cleaner) twist the throttle back and forth to find this when you have this cable adjusted so that it just makes contact when fully twisted turn your handlebars all the way to the right and adjust back lash cable so that ther is about 1/2" of play.
