Default Screaming Eagle Ventilator?

So I dropped the bike off tonight to get the stage 1 installed and tuned tomorrow. I had originally bought the Sceaming Eagle stage 1 air cleaner that would fit under my stock 2014 cover. But when I opened it to look at it I noticed it had the plain cast backing plate with it. It was the only kit the dealer had that would fit under the factory cover so I decided to exchange it for the chrome SE Ventilator. This unit has the black backing plate which looked more finished than the cast piece and matched well with the motor. Has anyone swapped the dry ventilator filter for the K&N option and if so could you tell any difference? I like the idea of being able to reuse the filter but always worry about over oiling the filter and either reducing the airflow or not oiling enough and sucking in dirt.

Yep. No issues with the K&N. Just like any other K&N. Make sure you read the directions...

The K&N didn't fit in mine, and yes, it was the right one! So I returned it to the dealer and ordered another one, double checking the part #... it didn't fit either! It was just a tad too wide, couldn't get it in without buckling the wire mesh. So on the second one I trimmed some of the rubber off of one side. Fits like a glove now! Can't say I noticed any difference, but I'm happy with it.

Ordered the same air cleaner for my 14. For same reason. Will install with stage one flash next week.

And yes, you have to oil them.

The Harley OEM filter is dry. The K&N replacement needs to be oiled.

You mentioned you didn't like the cast back plate and noted the color. I just installed the Harley Stage 1 on my 14 Limited, I didn't want the dull silver aluminum color backplate either so I simply painted it with gloss black hi temp engine enamel before I mounted it. Matches the bike and saved me a ton of $$. I've done this before and never had an issue.
