It worked for me, but you might have to push it down a little so the top of the plate bracket doesn't touch the bottom of the tour pak rack. It is a close fit. Close but it does work.
I am going to venture a guess that it has something to do with visibility when the tour pak is on, and it is more of a legal issue than a fit issue. The plate is still visible with the tour pak on, but not nearly as visible as it would be if it was a standup plate like the Road Kings have.
They also say that the detachable stuff will not work on the EG Classic and the Ultra Classic, but it does. I think they give that warning because of the hassle of the lights and antennas in the tour pak.
Bill has hit the nail on the head. It could very well be a liability issue and so stated, it lets the MoCo off the hook. As he has also stated there is close contact between the layback plate and the underneath side of the detatchable plate. Not a big issue.
As for the wiring, I had 2 wire bundles to deal with coming out of my tourpak. I bought 2 sets of Duestch (sp?) wire connectors and made my splices under the seat. I just made sure that I put a male on 1 wire bundle and a female on the other bundle coming from the tourpak so that there is no way to mismatch the bundles when hooking up the tourpak. I got the connectors from the dealer.
I pulled the antenna cable out and installed a hidden antenna in the fairing.
i was not able to get my lay down plate holder to work with the detach tour pack kit. Well...after reading this posting, i guess i didnt 'bend' the bracket enough. Mine still hit under the rack and would not completely lock down on the bike. Really, sucks casue the lay down holder looks much better than the vertical holder.
When I installed the detachable tour pak kit on my '05 Ultra, the layback license plate holder hit the bottom of the tourpak main chrome bracket. I ended up getting the Kuryakyn plate holder which is a little lower than the HD layback. I am not sure why some of you have success with the HD one and some don't.
