New Owner with Questions
Go easy on him Fellas' at least his riding, and that is what is the most important thing here..
Learn to ride that new bike safely pal, you will in time realize that this sport is not about "looking sharp" but staying safe.
its not a fashion parade..
I applaud you for asking the question. Buy a leather vest that you like (for summer) and a comfortable jacket for winter (doesnt have to HD!) leather or heavy textile is more then fine in So CAl - oh and I agree with others, ditch the tennis shoes and get a pair of boots with a good sole - these will be your best friends when you stop at a set of lights, right on the painted line, and its a wee bit slippery! y'd be surprised how heavy a SG is when your footing gives out! (ask me i know!! your @ss will resemble a balloon knot!) LOL!!!!!
Gook Luck to you buddy ride safe and enjoy!!!

Textile jackets: Firstgear, TourMaster, Olympia
Chaps: No idea because chaps don't protect some of the things I want to protect the most.
Pants: Draggin' Jeans or the liners made by Draggin' Jeans. The liners will let you wear whatever jeans you want. For cold/wet weather, look at TourMaster Venture pants. They are Michelin-Man looking, but you'll be warm and dry on the bike.
Boots: I'm partial to Sidi, Danner, and Wolverine. The Wolverines are all-day comfortable when you're on or off the bike. Sidi's are an awesome riding boot, but not so much off the bike.
Protective Gloves: Held, Dianese, along with any of the other usual brands like Alpinestars, Firstgear, TourMaster
Helmet: full-face. I'm partial to Arai, but have had good helmets by Bell, HJC, Scorpion and Shoei.
Base layers for cold weather: Windblock gear by Craft, Castelli, Pearl Izumi will do the trick. I've ridden in the teens and have never gotten cold using base layers by any of those brands. The windblock material is the trick.
I'm sure there are plenty of brands and opinions for you to consider. Hope these help you,
'fooz
Noticed you are wearing sneakers.
Lose the sneakers, get a GOOD pair of RIDING BOOTS.
I like Ariat, but I think they are out of the motorcycle boot business.
