There is no denying the package deal is a significant savings, but that's 2k for options I didn't want or need. Why pay for things you don't want or need? That's 2k some would rather spend on things they want. If those options are important to you, or you have extra money burning a hole in your pocket, then the Special is a no brainer.
I like all the bells and whistles and I felt they were worth the extra money just the ABS the pin striping the 6.5 inch screen and the CVO suspension is easily $2500++ in extras.
ABS and Security and the shocks were worth the 2,000 difference by itself. Then ad on the painted inner fairing and upgraded audio system why wouldn't anyone buy the Special? The radio alone is 1899.00 in the Harley parts book.
A much better value buying the SGS .
ABS & Security And better shocks are 3 things that were important to me. Dollar for dollar its a no brainer if the extras are important to you. The SGS is a MUCH BETTER VALUE IMO.
I do not like the street glide special because I do not like the pin strips the painted inner fairing is worse than the pin strips. I preferred the smaller screen on the radio. one thing I did do to my bike is change the rear shocks. In short the bells an whistles did not add anything for me and I was not counting my money.
All the initial 2014 regular SG's my local dealers had did not have the ABS & Security option or else I would have pulled the trigger then. Coming from an 09 with those options, I wasn't going to take a step back and miss out on the linked ABS. Later, I discovered there was a Special and started to research the differences. Having just completed a 25 day/7600mile cross country trip with a GPS mounted on my bars, the thought of the Infotainment system and the painted inner fairing won me over. Like some have said, Harley could have omitted the pin stripping on the SGS and I'd probably be even happier.

The day I bought mine the salesman had a quote in the system for a "Standard" without ABS or Security, The General manager chewed his A$$ out saying that ABS and Security was standard on all models....not a option. I opted for the Special because my wife wanted it, and she bought it for me.
