Nothing wrong with a good sounding bike and lord knows that we get away with alot with our pipes,,local law enforcement could be alot harder on us,,,but the guys with no baffels and use their pipes to cry for attention will cause law enforcement to come down on everybody,,,and there are places in this country that will give you a nice fine for being too LOAD!!!
just my 2 cents,,,
Just my opinion.Loud pipes on a touring bike are silly, drowns out the stereo and gives you a headache, ringing ears maybe permanent hearing loss. Typically exhaust systems are made to have baffles with baffles removed sound and run like crap, not always but most of the time.Choppers and assorted customs can get away with it because no one expects to travel cross country on them.I rode a Dyna with a Thunderheader for years and while it was loud I knew how to keep the noise down when I had to.It gets old always having to baby it early in the morning and around town always wondering if that cop is going to pull you over for your exhaust.
yeah I know...i hope you find portions of my post useful.
There is a possible performance downside- and a social downside.

thanks for the useful info mike. not like that p@ssy when hes behind his keyboard. it actually isnt much louder than with a decatted pipe.(now running a catted California with larger bungs for autotune)

What's the point? If you think its cool your wrong. You are the person that gives the sport a bad name.
Oh, I know you are one of many who could careless but really? You are the kind of guy I would like to go up to and slap too the ground till you cry like a baby but it would only result in something bad for both of us especially me so I just grin and bare it in hopes you will grow up and see how stupid you were.
What a dik!!!!!! All the op was asking was the bad points (probably muffler or engine damage) after removing baffles. now you are going to slap him to the ground????? get a life azzhole!!!!
I like loud, but respect what others like. I'm not real sure why so many on here are paranoid of getting a ticket, or have to make derogatory comments, maybe it's just an excuse because their wife won't let them have a loud bike, LOL.
But hey to each their own, if we all liked the same things, and all had the same bikes with stock quiet pipes, it would be a boring world.

I know right?.....I was reading another thread about a guy getting a ticket for loud pipes,...and this guy says he thinks that all the performance companies should just be banned from making pipes for bikes!
I bet he is a Ozombie, and wants to take everyone's guns too.
Then,...to make things worse,...he has to brag about how he would smack someone down for their choice in exhaust note.
I have only been here a short time,....but I hope this guy realizes who he really is and buys a 50cc scooter to tote his lover around on.
