The V-Rod motor will not pull a touring bike. It only has a 2.835 which is great for turning up RPM But makes very little torque.
The twin cam has a 4.374 all most double. The internal leverage of the crank is wear the torque comes from, The cam dictates to an extent how much and were it is at in the RPM Band.
Well I don't know how much torque it takes to move a touring bike in Texas (actually I do, I lived there for 25 years), but it looks to me like this might do it!

I hated hearing the dealers say this to customers who asked the question. Not the case. A vrod 1250 motor has more horsepower and pretty close or more torque then the old 88CI twin cam motor had. No one complained about there good old 88, or even 80CI evo. I know that the vrod has more torque then that evo. Either way, i had a vrod muscle and rode two up with the wife loaded with gear and that thing hauled *** more then anything i ever owned. Two downsides i learned from my vrod. Gas mileage blows. Once i did the pipes i got 20-25 MPG, meaning i had to start looking for gas by 100 miles on the tank, five gallons did not last long, not good for a bagger, also i ate through tires every 4000 miles like a sport bike, however it is pretty hard to stay off the throttle. A comfortable fully loaded road glide with that smooth vrod motor would be pretty friggin awesome. Although every one will complain about doing valve adjustments, something even the harley mechanics hate doing.
