Do you guys replace the shocks yourselves or do you have the dealership do it? Anything special needed when replacing the shocks?
I put some Ohlins on my Dyna with absolutely no problem at all. I do have a Harley lift though. That's what made it very easy. I'm expecting the job on my SG will be even easier because you don't need to use the PITA spacers on the touring frame like you do on the Dyan when you put it on the lift.

You need to support the weight of the bike, also to adjust the distance between the swingarm and frame mounting points. That can be done using a simple car jack, if you don't have a fancy bike lift, just as long as it supports the bike safely. I used a scissor jack for my Sporty. Even if the shocks are nominally the same length, their actual length, fresh out of the box, may be slightly different from those you are taking off.
The info I'm looking for is lowering my 05 FLHTCI close to a SG. Stopped on my bike I can place both feet flat but my legs are pretty much extended which makes it difficult for me to hold the bike up when I have a passenger. No room for flexibility. I sat on a friends SG and to me seemed perfect. Feet both planted flat, legs were not extended giving me plenty of room to move them if I had a passenger.
I don't know much about shocks and lowering kits, etc., but from reading most of these post's it seems you can do pretty much anything to your bike to fit your needs. I understand that with a touring bike you need the extra support to hold baggage and passenger while still getting a comfy ride where as say a SG you wouldn't because of not having the baggage/passenger capacity/s but having a different kind of comfy ride. Where would I start if I wanted to lower my bike like the SG but still have the support of the touring; is this a fair question or this just cannot be done??
I want to keep my bike, but see if there is a way I can lower it like a SG position.

IMHO we don't need to put our feet down flat! However rather than messing with your bike have you looked at thicker soled boots? It sounds as if you are very close to being just right and it is much easier and quicker, also cheaper! Harley have some, but there are others around that can help you reach that little bit extra.
