I,m 5,10 220 and wife is 5,6 180 and while we are riding out in the country, we hit some potholes and such, the rear of the bike bottoms out pretty hard, 06 ultra, I have the shocks at 28# now. What is going on??? I hate to imagine what will hapen when we load it up for a long trip, luggage and such. I bought a new shock air pump, is the guage bad?
I have to put my shocks up pretty high when loaded and two up to not bottom out....sometimes still do. The best thing to do if you ride that way often is to go with Progressive 440's or Works shocks. That's what I plan on doing.
We are out for a Sunday ride, with no more than ride gear on and rain gear in the bags. We ride a lot of lesser used small highways. I have had trouble by myself, with 15# and it will do the same thing.
It is stock, and it has no leaks. it will maintain the set pressure for several months and not change. the more I think about it I,m going to put a digital gauge on it. that many other riders are not having problems is starting to make me wonder. I,ll check the gauge on the pump when i get home this weekend. thanks Dan
when me and the little woman hit the road, I run it @ 35lbs, if i forget to adjust from 25lbs or so, yikes my fillings get lose real quick.
The numbers you guys are using sound awfully high to me. Check the manual. Is it possible that you have so much pressure in the shocks and you're not bottoming out at all but the shocks are so stiff that they have ceased to function? I run about 18 pounds with wife and luggage and it's rare to bottom out unless we hit something really rough. I have therear tire at 40.I run about 12 pounds (38 lbs in tire)while I'm riding solo. I weigh about 208.

I think digital is overkill. Use the little pump Harley sells. The guage is accurate and it doesn't lose air when you unscrewthehose.
