Now that you took it off the bike, could you measure the force of both springs using a simple scale ?
When the shoe of my 'single spring' Hayden gets compressed it performs like your Baker and the primary is perfectly quiet

Im over the Hayden unit. If you want to measure the spring tension I will be happy to sell you my unit.

So you must have a transparent primary cover that allows you to make your unilaterial statements? Sounds like you really wish you had a Baker.

I didnt experiment with the two aftermarket tensioners to reduce noise. The entire undertaking was performed in order to prevent or slow various bearing wear.

Glad you are happy with your Hayden unit.

did you have to remove the comp. to install or were you able to sneak it in behind the chain?

Thanks for the write up Joe, another little tidbit people over look is when the shoe wears out(which they all will in time) you can replace it with our unit, instead of buying a whole new tensioner like some of the other units.

Recall your thread about problems with the Haden. Assume you checked out the SOHB hydraulic tensioner. What were your conclusions? IMHO I believe this is the best alternative. There were problems with the ealier wedge designs but I believe they have them tweeked. I believe a variable tensioner (spring or hyd) provides low speed manuverability much better than any fixed tensioner.

Once installed I compressed the shoe all the way down with both thumbs; and yes, I like the design of the Baker but I have to give mine a chance ...

Yes, compensating sprocket must be removed. No big deal though. Just go back with a new compensator bolt and torque to specs.
