I can see a person that wont mod his bike, or spend extra to personalize it to trade up to the newest model that is better than the last to get a newer bike
I'm waiting on the new and improved Road Glide. If it ever actually materializes. For now the 2011 is ok by me. I just didn't realize it would be outdated that fast.
Not surprised seeing a big move to the 2014. Harley made more changes this year to their high end high margin bikes. The amount of changes and their appeal to the buyer was much higher than normal. I traded in a 2012 Ultra limited with 5000 miles because I couldn't resist. I had some cash in the bank to do it so I did. I am now using my money I previously spent on tobacco $140 a week to buy the chrome I want for the new bike. I really believe this a first...Harley listened to their customer and gave them what they wanted. I just sold some of their stock as I think they are close to the top for the next year. I think HOG hit the ball out of the park in 2014 in spite of some small issues and best of all as an investor they made the biggest inroads on their most expensive bikes.
Harley also has some emerging markets they are working on.My guess is give them two years and they are going to be selling more bike in China then they do in North America.
Have to agree with others here. My days of buying new bikes are behind me. Value drops so severely, and I rarely keep a bike long enough to justify the beating. My carb'd 06 is nicknamed "LazyBoy". Slow, fat and super comfortable. The new 103's just don't bring anything to the table compelling enough to part with that much scratch, at least for me. Would rather own a few different bikes, for different kinds of riding.
For new SG money, I own three bikes all that are an absolute pleasure to own and ride. Wanna go fast? The K12S cannot be touched for raw acceleration, smoothness, hand-of-god brakes, etc. Nothing can touch the Duc for carving mountain roads, and nothing is as comfortable, solid and effortless with a passenger for long rides like my RK.
Good marketing campaign on the 14's they are selling them like crazy, people are waiting for them to come in.
Its more than a campaign.............they changed and improved the product. Take a look at the number of changes with an open mind. Best campaign in the world won't work if they customer is still saying "where is the beef" Slam HOG when they screw up and cheer them on when they get it right.
