Default Push start time

So the bike cranked v e r y slowly this morning (in fairness it was 18* out) and now, almost time to leave work, it's dead. It's also in a gravel parking lot.

I'm toying with the idea of push starting it as we are supposed to leave for Branson at 5 and having my wife come out to jump it will take an hour.

Anyone have any (useful) thoughts?

if the battery is completely dead, or close to it, then push starting is not going to do anything but make you tired. you have to have a minimum voltage in order to run the computer, and if you don't have it, then sorry.....

have your wife buy a new battery and bring it to you to install and have a nice trip to branson.

Yea, it tried one revolution and gave up. I think I'll just leave it here at the shop and have her come get me. Dropping the thing trying to start it would probably ruin the holiday for me

if the battery is duff, it can put a big strain on the charging system and may damage the regulator or stator.

a $100 problem becomes a $500 problem

Ultra103, you are more of a man than me if you are gonna push start a 950lb bike in a gravel parking lot. I would have her come get you, take the bike home and by the looks of your sig, take the other bike.

Other bike is gone sadly... Did you get all the nasty sand out of your toes yet? Welcome back.

I started mine at 24 degrees about a week ago, and she turned slow and struggled to fire. It is 1 year old and despises the cold weather.

You would have to get that bike rolling pretty good to push start it, the compression on the EVO's is much higher.

For those of you that have push started a touring bike, what gear did you use, 1st or 2nd? I tried both at about 5+ MPH with no joy with ignition On and kill switch at Run.
